 They came, they saw, they played their sets...they, er.. rocked! The first Hippo night in nearly a year took the Bourbon by storm last Friday, showcasing both established hippo and new hippo artists alike and ultimately letting you guys in on just what has been happening behind our 4 walls throughout 2009. A new venue and a whole new vibe started the night off perfectly, as did our opening act, The Sicks. New to the studio earlier this year, their mix of reggae infused surf rock added to the atmosphere circulating the venue and got the massing audience up off their chairs and ready on their dancing feet. A now popular appearance was made by our very own house engineer extraordinaire, now honorary British brass master, Chris Michel and his brother, Jonny Michel on trumpet and trombone. http://www.myspace.com/thesicksmusic Driving in from the valley, Abbotsford sons, Carnival Knights proved to us that rock music wasn't just for guitar hero wannabees, the summer seeing the four grace Mushroom and Hipposonic with real tales from real life. The set sees John the 6th aptly toss his - he informs me newly bought, bowler at the audience and ripp into another great tune, leaving no doubt in anyones mind of the potential this now carries. http://www.myspace.com/carnivalknights Our penultimate act, our very on children of rock and Vancouver favourites, Stereoplane hit the stage in mock rehersal of their new album and forthcoming tour. The most dapper looking band of the night, Stereoplane captivated the audience with another flawless show at no point dropping the feverant buzz within the house. http://www.myspace.com/stereoplane The shows headliner, A Frosty Comet provided a smooth transition from showcase to Friday night party with their youthful pop energy and gutsy guitar riffs. Having worked at Hipposonic with master at arms and certified Sir, Ovi Bistriceanu throughout the year, the band applied all their studio energy into the last minutes of their set, rounding off the evening with a big ol' thumbs up from those who came. http://www.myspace.com/afrostycomet Thank you so much to everyone who came out to celebrate with us, especially the bands, sorry it's been so long!
